We have implemented SmarterMail minimum password requirement on all global mail server setting, which requires each POP3 account password to have the following requirement.
1. The password must have at least a minimum of 5 characters.
2. The password should not be equivalent to the POP3 username.
*3. The password should contain at least a minimum of 1 symbol.
The above is applied as a security precautions to prevent any of the POP3 user account from being hijacked by malicious user due to easily guess password.
User will be required to login to the webmail or login via the Helm control panel to update the POP3 user account password.
As the password requirement previously allowed user to create easy password such as '123456', 'password', etc, with immediate effect on 11 May 2009, user need to enter at least 1 symbol for their SmarterMail password.
However, we will apply the changes to all the existing email accounts which has been setup prior to the implementation of the new policy by 27 May 2009. You are advised to update your email account password if your current password does not meet the above requirement before 27 May 2009. Failure to do so will cause your password to be rejected by the Smartermail mail server and you will be prompted for 'Password Rejection' error at your local mail client as well as not being able to login to the WebMail.
